The Government’s rent policy
From April 2015 a new rents standard has been set by the Social Housing Regulator based on Government Policy. Rent increases from April 2015 will be based on the September Consumer Price Index (CPI) Plus 1%.
Increases in rent and service charges are effective from the first Monday of April each year.
How does this affect my rent and Housing Benefit?
If you receive full Housing Benefit, the amount you receive should increase to cover the increase; however under the Government’s Welfare Reform changes, the amount you receive may go down if you are considered to be under occupying your home.
