Government 'Warm Home Discount' scheme 2016/17
Are you in receipt of pension credit? If so, you should be entitled to a discount of £140.00 on your winter fuel bills.
The Warm Home Discount Scheme was launched in April 2011. It is a joint venture between the government and energy companies to help households in England, Scotland and Wales who need it most to get a rebate from their electricity bill.
1. What you'll get
For winter 2016 to 2017, you could get £140 off your electricity bill through the Warm Home Discount Scheme. The money isn't paid to you - it's a one-off discount on your electricity bill between October and April. The discount won't affect your Cold Weather Payment or Winter Fuel Payment. Not everyone gets the discount - check if you qualify.
2. Pre-pay or pay-as-you-go meters
You can also qualify for the discount if you use a pre-pay or pay-as-you-go electricity meter. Your electricity supplier can tell you how you'll get the discount if you're eligible, for example a voucher you can use to top up your meter.

If you meet the criteria for the scheme, participating suppliers will start to accept applications for 2016/17 from June 2016 and payment would be made by the end of March 2017. If you have not received a letter by the end of November and you think you are eligible, contact your electricity company direct to make sure you’re not missing out. For further information and to apply for the scheme from June, please contact your supplier or check their website for details on how to apply.
You will need your electricity account number and details of benefits you receive.
If you are unable to contact your supplier and require assistance to complete the application please contact the Warm Home Discount Scheme Helpline on 0845 603 9439. Lines are open from 8am - 6pm, Monday to Friday.
